Post fight press conference
Nine years after his first title shot, against then-featherweight champion Jose Aldo, the Korean Zombie had a second chance to claim gold at UFC 273. South Korean veteran Alexander Volkanowski was paired in the main event against a dominant winner. A chance to kick off a monumental uproar Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida.
Volkanovski vs Zombie UFC 273 wasn’t the only title fight on the cards. In the co-main event, Aljamaine Stirling and Petr Yan finally got to play it back. In March 2021, Sterling captured bantamweight gold against Yan, but the fight ended in DQ due to an illegal knee by the Russian. For the first time in UFC history, a title had changed hands due to disqualification – and Yan followed up with the match again, winning an interim title against Cory Sandhagen back in October.
Despite two major title fights, it was a non-title affair that intrigued the most on Saturday. After defeating his first four opponents, Khamzat Chimayev was getting his first true test in the UFC. Against former title challenger Gilbert Burns, “Borz” had the opportunity to prove that there was fire behind the smoke, the justification behind the hype.

UFC 273 delivered on its promise of being a highly entertaining pay-per-view. At the top of the fight card at this event were two title fights, with Alexander Volkanovsky versus Chan Sung Jung for the featherweight title and Petr Yan versus Aljamaine Sterling for the bantamweight championship.

Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns blew the roof off the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, providing a fighting barn for MMA fans around the world. Both deservedly received the ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus and took home an additional $50,000 each for their efforts.

UFC 273 pay-per-view was held at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday night local time, marking two World Championships. In the main event of the night, Alexander Volkanowski defended his UFC Featherweight Championship title against No. 4 ranked Chan Sung Jung, also known as The Korean Zombie. Volkanowski won the TKO for his title defense by striking 0:45 of the fourth round.
