When is opening day for
The season that almost didn’t happen finally gets underway on Thursday. Major League Baseball 2022 Inauguration Day is here — and not a minute too soon.
Each team will play its first match over the next two days (14 on Thursday, 16 on Friday), but by the time we get to the Fall Classic, the 2022 season will look a little different.
This year, for the first time, there will be 12 teams in the playoff ground, the largest post-season event in the history of the sport.
Obviously, the best way to experience Opening Day is at the stands, with a hot dog and beer on hand. But it is not a viable option for most people. Fortunately, there are many ways to watch.
Here’s who’s playing, plus when and where you can watch it (note: not all games will be broadcast):
Thursday, April 7.
Opening day games
Major League Baseball’s 2022 Inauguration Day is here. The new season began on Thursday, as the Cubs and Brewers kicked off a seven-game slate at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The reigning champion Braves also get their World Series defense against the Reds on Thursday night, and the Mets will face the Nationals a few hours later than expected. The Mets and Nuts will close at 7:05 PM. Instead of 4:05 ET in an attempt to avoid bad weather in Washington.
There were originally nine games on Thursday’s schedule, but two of those games — the Yankees versus the Red Sox (originally set to be the first game of the 2022 MLB season) and the Twins versus the Mariners — were postponed because of the weather forecast. were. Both those games were moved to Friday, when the other 16 teams will play their openers.
For the first time ever, 2022 will field a 12-team playoff, the largest post-season field to date in the entire season. In theory, at least, this should mean that more teams have a chance of winning the pennant heading on Opening Day than ever before in reality.
