PFF

The Green Bay Packers have a new punter.

According to Tom Pelicero of NFL Network, the Packers signed former Chicago Bears punter Pat O’Donnell.

O’Donnell, who has been a punter at Chicago for the past eight seasons, will replace Corey Bjorkez at Green Bay.

Last season, O’Donnell was ranked 23rd in the overall punting grade in Pro Football Focus. He was also ranked 31st in net punting average and 32nd in average hangtime.

His career punting average is 45.1 yards, with 220 punts inside the 20-yard line.

A veteran, O’Donnell is now a potential specialist for Rich Bisaccia’s special teams at Green Bay.

O’Donnell, 31, was the Bears’ sixth-round pick in 2014. He has punt 577 times in his career. He also threw a touchdown pass on his only NFL attempt during the 2017 season.

Combine

Jadeveon Clowney may have been drafted No. 1 overall, but people will continue to needle him due to the fact that a punter bench pressed more reps than the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Former Miami punter Pat O’Donnell pressed 225 pounds in the combine 23 times a few months ago, while Clooney recorded just 21 reps. While this didn’t hurt Clooney’s draft stock, it may have helped O’Donnell, as the Chicago Bears made him the first punter drafted in the sixth round with the No. 191 overall pick.

Clooney may not have bench-pressed many reps, but it’s safe to say he’ll be talked about more than O’Donnell in the next few years.
