Naomi Osaka (born 16 October 1997) is a Japanese professional tennis player. She is ranked No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and is the first Asian player to achieve the top ranking in singles. She is a four-time Grand Slam singles champion. His seven titles on the WTA Tour also include two titles at the Premier Essentials level. Naomi Osaka will drop out of the top 80 after the WTA rankings were updated on January 31 following the conclusion of the Australian Open.

The Japanese star’s journey to the 2022 Australian Open was ended by American talent Amanda Anisimova, with the 20-year-old knocking her out 10-5 in a match tiebreak.

Naomi Osaka is currently ranked 14th in the world with 2696 ranking points, just ahead of Simona Halep.

However, 2000 of those points are taken from the time she won the 2021 Australian Open.

After so long off the court in 2021, and a third round exit in Melbourne, the four-time majors champion will now give up 1870 of the 2000 points she was defending from the 2021 event.

This would see Osaka drop at least 70 places to 84th in the world with 826 ranking points.

Depending on whether Kaia Kanepi (world No. 115) and Madison Inglis (world No. 133) continue their campaigns Down Under, Osaka could drop a place or two ahead.

Osaka has been in the top 20 for four years since she broke up for the first time in May 2018.

The drop to 84th place would be her lowest ranking since 8 August 2016, when she was ranked 84th for the first time.

Up to that point, Osaka had played only two Slam main draws, and has played 19 more since then, claiming the title on four.

While the 24-year-old would be well within the Slam qualification range of the top 100 or so players, she would not automatically qualify for lower level events, possibly even a WTA 1000 draw.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka was brought to tears by a heckler on her way to a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Veronika Kudermatova at the Indian Wells WTA hardcourt tournament on Saturday. Japan’s Osaka, ranked 78th in the world after a third round exit at the Australian Open, was shaken early in the first set when someone in the crowd shouted “Naomi, you sock”. She requested the chair umpire to take action, to no avail, and in the second round match, down 0-3, her feelings spread.

Osaka pulled herself together and resumed the match, but 21st seed Kudarmetova raced through the opening set before Osaka managed to serve to open second.

Although she upped her game, Osaka could not take advantage of any of her four break points in the competition, and a break of serve in the seventh game of the second set was enough for Kudarmatova to capture the win.

Osaka headlines the athlete’s mental health in a difficult 2021, revealing that she suffered from depression.

But speaking on the court after the match, she said it was not that she found the remarks so hurtful that she was upset, but because it reminded her of the trouble Venus and Serena Williams had been harassed at Indian Wells in 2001.
