Suspension Period

The NFL announced Monday that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for at least the entire 2022 season and possibly beyond. This comes after an NFL investigation found that he had gambled on NFL games.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, the NFL noted that there was no evidence that Ridley used insider information to gamble on games, but it still violated the league’s code of conduct in the most serious way possible.

The letter said the betting reportedly took place over a five-day period in November 2021, while Ridley was on a non-football illness list. Further details have emerged about the betting nature of Ridley.

So, during a five-day period at the end of November 2021 when he was away from the club to focus on his mental health.

After an investigation, the league found “no evidence indicating the use of any insider information or compromising any sport in any way”. Therefore not any evidence suggesting any awareness by coaches, staff, teammates, or other players of their betting activity.”

Still, Goodell maintained that “the integrity of the game” is fundamental to the success of the league, and Ridley jeopardized that integrity.
