Patriots
Cooper would be a great addition to the Patriots offense, but given his potential salary demands as a free agent, the best way for Bill Belichick to gain an impact player at wide receiver is probably through the draft. The draft class of 2022 is full of wide receiver depth and talent.
Cooper will be an upgrade on every wide receiver currently on the New England roster. The issue is cost. If Cooper’s market is going to be strong, he’ll probably put himself out of reach of the Patriots. The Patriots don’t have a ton of salary cap space right now — about $9.3 million, per over the cap — and need to consider re-signing a bunch of free agents of their own, most notably defensive back Jesse. Jackson and Devin McCourty.

The Cowboys must release Cooper by March 20, the fifth day of the new league year. If not, they owe Cooper $20 million.
Cooper is in the third year of his five-year, $100 million contract, per Spotrac. The Cowboys’ salary is estimated to exceed $21 million, and Cooper’s release will reduce his cap hit for the 2022 season to $6 million.
Coach Mike McCarthy and owner Jerry Jones have not talked about the possibility of releasing Cooper. Earlier this week, though, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones did not give a straight answer on Cooper’s future in Dallas.
