Michigan gets back on track with a thrilling win in New Jersey.

• Michigan avoided what would arguably be one of the worst losses of the Jim Harborg era, trailing by a first-half deficit and surviving triple overtime with a 48–42 victory over Rutgers.
• The Scarlet Knights entered the game as a heavy underdog, but helped bring Wolverine back into the game with a 17–0 lead before a change at quarterback.

Highlights 

Cade McNamara took over for Joe Milton and the offense gained some life, taking the lead before halftime and maintaining momentum in the back-and-game in the second half.

McNamara finished with four touchdowns with 260 yards and zero interceptions on 27 touch-36 passing, connecting with Cornelius Jackson for two of those scores and guiding the offense through those tense overtime possessions helping out.

Performance 

1. But McMara’s performance off the bench was not nearly enough, as Rutgers quarterback Noah Vaidal was also dialed in to allow this dialogue away from the Scarlet Knights.
2. Vedal literally retained the defenders in a two-point conversion in the game zone in regulation for less than 30 seconds, after one play he pushed the defenders to fourth place for a touchdown.

He finished with 378 passing yards and three touchdowns, but no yardage or score would be worthwhile enough as they play at the end of regulation that both sparked life for the Rutgers and the seed of doubt for a Michigan team. The buoy that explicitly takes back control later in the game.

The Rutgers scored on a Waddell pass to Jovani Haskins in the first match of the second overtime, but then Michigan responded with a game-tying touchdown to force McNemara’s third overtime.

When Hasan Haskins, who led Michigan with 112 takedowns in the game, jumped into the line on fourth and scored what would have been a game-winning touchdown to score.

That victory would not be sealed until the Rutgers had a chance to respond, and Michigan’s blocking in the end zone ended the Scarlet Knights’ upset bid.
