He played college football in Michigan from 1983 to 1986. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons from 1987 to 2000, with his longest stint as a player with the Chicago Bears. He served as the head coach of the San Diego Toreros (2004–2006), the Stanford Cardinals (2007–2010), and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers (2011–2014). When the Minnesota Vikings meet with Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh on Wednesday, he is expected to become the franchise’s new head coach on Tuesday, according to on3.com’s Chris Balas.
According to Balas, Wednesday’s interview with the Vikings is more than just a “formalism,” and Harbaugh is heading to Minnesota to “sign a deal” to become the new head coach of Purple and Gold.If all goes as expected, it appears that Harbaugh is on his way to become the 10th head coach in Vikings history.

According to several reputable outlets, Jim Harbaugh is set to become the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.
If you’ve been following The Winged Helmet here or on Facebook, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. The team may be surprised, but Harbaugh’s decision to accept the NFL position certainly isn’t. We maintained for the better part of a month that if offered, Harbaugh would take a job in the NFL. Now it looks like we are within 24 hours of this happening.
I always thought a return to Ann Arbor was very possible and maybe even possible because it was the path of least resistance and because it was the only thing Harbaugh had in control, but we’ve also been very honest in saying that he wanted to go. He wanted to go back to Michigan more than go back to the NFL. Accepting a job with the Minnesota Vikings would certainly support that idea.

Whether or not Jim Harbaugh can stay on as coach at Michigan will soon resolve itself. However, the implications of the possible departure are already clear.
Harbaugh is genuinely interested in returning to the NFL, with a source telling CBS Sports that Harbaugh “definitely” wants to return to the league. News broke over the weekend that the Michigan coach had “expressed legitimate interest” in the job for the Minnesota Vikings. The Miami Dolphins are also reportedly in the mix, although team owner and powerful Michigan donor Stephen Ross has previously stated that he is “not going to be the one to pick up Jim Harbaugh from the University of Michigan”.
If the coach leaves the khaki mecca and blue, he will be able to do so with his head held high. Harbaugh fulfilled his fortune in 2021 by defeating The Team Down South (Ohio State), winning the Big Ten Championship in major fashion, and earning a berth in the College Football Playoffs. Took up to 7 years, but at least it happened.
