TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — If Tom Brady played the last game of an unprecedented career, he ended with one of his toughest losses after a surprise comeback.

Bloodied and battered by the Los Angeles Rams, the 44-year-old seven-time Super Bowl champion trailed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 27-3 deficit, only to see the defense surrender in the final minute to set up a big game. Matt Gay’s winning 30-yard field goal.

The Rams’ 30-27 victory on Sunday sent Los Angeles home to host the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next week. Brady ended Tampa Bay’s bid to become the NFL’s first repeat champion to lead New England to consecutive titles after the 2003–04 season.

Before Tom Brady and the Buccaneers took the field against the Rams in the divisional round on Sunday, many around the league were looking forward to the future. More specifically: is this the last storm of Brady’s football career?

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brady is likely to retire after this season. Rapoport said Sunday morning that Brady has not told the Buccaneers that he will return for the 2022 season, leaving open the possibility that his 22nd season in the league will be his last.

Tom Brady spoke very early of the NFL’s reluctance to call for a non-player conduct penalty against him. For the first time in his NFL career, Brady was called out for a non-player conduct penalty—called against him at age 44 (yes it took 22 seasons).

Brady received a penalty for arguing with an official when Von Miller hit a hit during the Rams’ wild 30-27 win over the Bucks on Sunday that may have caused a bloody lip for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback . Miller hit Brady Good, causing him to yell at referee Shawn Hochuli because there was no flag to rough up a passerby. Hochuli didn’t buy what Brady was selling and instead flagged Brady.

Brady was not sent to the field by Miller, but the helmet on his chin could have bled from his lip. Naturally, Brady wasn’t happy with the no-call.
