Conservative:

There was a farcical moment on Margaret Court Arena as Denis Shapovalov walked away while Reilly Opelka argued about a time violation at the Australian Open.

Few things anger tennis players more than time violations. Even if they are wholly justified. For American player Opelka, being handed a warning by the umpire for taking too long mopping his considerable mane with a towel between points was simply too much to take.

Venus Williams:

While the speculations continued throughout 2021, they were ended this week by Venus as she clarified the situation on an Instagram story. The 7 time Grand Slam winner had put up a “Questions” sticker on her story, where she answered questions from her fans.

The fans of course didn’t hesitate to ask her questions about her relationship status. One follower asked if she and Reilly are dating, to which she very wittily clarified that they are not dating.

Williams and Opelka had contrasting seasons on the court in 2021. While Opelka enjoyed a strong campaign and reached new heights, veteran Williams struggled with injuries and form.

Opelka reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final, where he lost to world number 2 Daniil Medvedev in the title clash at the Canada Masters.

Pink bag:

When Reilly Opelka walked out on court in the second round of the US Open, what drew attention – more than his 6-foot-11 frame – was the pink tote bag he was carrying. The American carried the bag instead of the usual handbag provided by his racquet sponsor.

But since the unexpected selection advertised a brand logo bigger than what is permitted, organisers were quick to slap a US $10,000 fine on the World No 24 – the biggest fine to be handed out at the tournament so far.
