Mental health
In mid-October — just as he was rejoining the Kansas City Chiefs lineup after being in injured reserve since the end of the 2020 season — second-year linebacker Willie Gay Jr. posted on Twitter about his mental health. Did.

Injury
On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about the possibility of Gaye being active for Sunday night’s primetime matchup against the Buffalo Bills, and Reid struck a somewhat optimistic tone.
“Yeah, there’s a chance,” Reid said. “He was like getting there last week so we’ll look at this piece, see where he is as we move on here. I think he’s definitely feeling a little bit better.”
The Chiefs opened the practice window for Gay Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, opening the door for Gaye’s return. Gay practiced but did not receive injury designation as he was still in injured reserve, as noted by Herbie Teop of The Kansas City Star.

The good news for Gay and the Chiefs is that according to the NFL’s IR rules for the 2021 season, he can return as early as Week 4, after missing three games. The change was made ahead of the 2020 season and will remain in place until at least 2021.
On Tuesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made the first official mention of Gaye’s injury, noting that it came during the Chiefs’ preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Let me give an injury update here,” Reid said to begin his press conference. “Willie Gaye is really the only new one, he hurt his toe in the game. He didn’t go today [Tuesday] – we’ll see how he performs here over the next few days.”
