Novak Djokovic ( born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player. He is currently ranked as the World No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Exemption

Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he will play the Australian Open after receiving a medical exemption to compete in the tournament without the COVID-19 vaccination. Australian Open tournament director Craig Tilly said last month that all players competing in Melbourne would either have to undergo double vaccination or provide proof of medical exemption.

Djokovic has never disclosed that he has been vaccinated against Covid-19, but has criticized the mandate that players be double-pocketed. “I had a wonderful time with my loved ones during the break and today I am going downstairs with relaxation allowed,” he said on social media on Tuesday.

He entered the ATP Cup, but then withdrew from the Sydney tournament at the last minute, and even his Serbian teammates were unsure whether Djokovic would be able to play the Australian Open. Until recently there were fears that the 34-year-old would not play his first Grand Slam of the year, with tournament director Craig Tilly saying on Sunday that Djokovic was leaving “too late” to come to Australia. “As far as the situation is concerned with Novak, I think we will have a much clearer picture in the coming days otherwise it is too late to show up and play the Australian Open,” Tilly told Channel 9. “There is a lot to play outside and I think it will play out in the coming days.”It is not clear on what basis Djokovic got the exemption. The Australian Open confirmed in a statement released on Monday night that Djokovic has been released after a thorough review by two independent panels.

Anti vax

Andy Roddick has warned Novak Djokovic and his fellow teammates against the COVID-19 jab, saying they need to rethink their stance as the Australian Open is not that far off and there is a need for a full vaccination.
