It was played between the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Blues defeated Wilde by a score of 6-4. The game was originally scheduled for 2021, but was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The temperatures may have been cold, but the St. Louis Blues offense was hot at the 2022 Winter Classic. The Blues recorded five goals in the second period en route to a 6–4 win over the Minnesota Wild. Center Jordan Kyaru led with a four-point performance in which he scored two goals and made two assists. It marked the first time in NHL history that a player had recorded a four-point outing in an outdoor game. Both Kyrou’s goals came in the second period in which the St. Louis offense wreaked havoc. Just 27 seconds into the frame, Kyrou got credit for a goal when he was attempting to hit teammate Vladimir Tarasenko on a centering pass. As Tarasenko cut in front of the net, wild forward Ryan Hartman was pucked out and Kyrou’s tally gave the Blues a 2-1 lead. With 2:02 remaining in the second period, Kyrou found himself with the puck in the offensive zone. He controlled the puck in the face-off circle, waited for wild forward Mats Zuccarello to make his move, and fired his shot in front of Cam Talbot to give St. Louis a 5-1 lead.

The 2021 outdoor games were not held because the coronavirus-shortened season did not start until mid-January. But this winter classic in the kingdom of hockey will be special for several reasons. It will be the first one that will deliberately start at night. The 2011 Winter Classic at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field was moved from noon to evening due to rain forecast. -It will be cold, sub-zero temperatures are expected. This would make it the coolest NHL outdoor game ever. The game is worthwhile as the Blues and Wilds battle it out for the Central Division title. The Blues have a one point lead, but the Wilds have two games in hand. In outdoor games both the teams lead 1-0.

Following the debut of Dirty Honey’s NHL Winter Classic, the band would hit the road for the “Young Guns” tour on January 18, a 31-city, co-titled North American track with Mammoth WVH.

The NHL has staged 32 modern outdoor games, leaning this weekend at the home of MLB’s Minnesota Twins. The high temperatures are only going to reach -2 degrees on Saturday, but it will get even cooler when the games start at 7 pm. ET with a frozen temperature of -5 and a wind chill around -20 degrees. Meanwhile the NHL has announced the postponement of nine additional games, eight of which are due to attendance restrictions in Canada. The NHL earlier this week postponed nine other Canadian games for the same reason.
