Saban previously served as the head coach of the National Football League. Miami Dolphins and at three other universities: Louisiana State University (LSU), Michigan State University and the University of Toledo. Saban is considered by many to be the greatest coach in college football history.

Saban, who turns 70 in October, will earn $8.7 million this year, an increase of $400,000 a year in his salary. He will be paid an average of $10.6 million over the lifetime of the contract, with $11.5 million in the final year.

According to his new deal, Saban will be paid $80,000,000 in completion benefits every year until 2025. The contract also stipulates that Saban will be paid at least as much as the average total salary of the top three SEC coaches or the top five NCAA coaches, whichever is higher.

As Alabama enters his 15th season, Saban finds himself in the familiar position of defending national champion. Six of Saban’s record seven national championships have come in Alabama. His second was at LSU in 2003.
