Kentucky Derby winning horse Medina Spirit died Monday at the Santa Anita Racetrack in Southern California, according to the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB).
The CHRB told CNN that Medina Spirit collapsed near the finish line when he was completing a workout and died instantly.
“Following the completion of a routine morning workout, Medina Spirit collapsed on the track in Santa Anita Park and died suddenly from a possible cardiac event according to the on-site veterinary team,” Santa Anita Park said in a statement. Went.”

“All I can say is that he gave us the ride of our lives and brought everyone together,” Zedan said in a report on Thoroughbred Daily News.

According to Baffert’s attorney, Craig Robertson, the 3-year-old colt coached by Bob Baffert completed five furlongs in his second workout since finishing second at the Breeders’ Cup Classic in Del Mar a month earlier. Baffert said in a statement that the horse suffered a heart attack.
