Mario Manuel Cristobal (born September 24, 1970) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head football coach at the University of Miami. Playing career
Letterman, a four-year-old with the University of Miami Hurricanes football team between 1988 and 1992, played for Cristobal Hall of Fame coaches Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson. [1] During his four seasons, the Hurricanes won two national championships (1989 and 1991) and earned a first-team All-Big East Conference in 1992 as an offensive tackle. He graduated from Miami in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and later obtained a master’s degree from Miami in 2001.
Cristobal was interviewed about his time at the University of Miami for the documentary The You, which premiered on ESPN on December 12, 2009.
Record
Cristobal has spent the last four seasons as head coach at Oregon and holds a 35-13 record in Eugene. The program won the Pac-12 titles in 2019 and ’20. Before joining Oregon, Cristobal stayed in Alabama, Rutgers and Miami in supporting roles. He was also the head coach at FIU from ’07-12.
Cristobal grew up in Miami and played four seasons with the Hurricanes as an offensive tackle. Cristobal, 51, won two national titles with the Hurricane in 1989 and ’91.
Cristobal’s move has been a significant set of coaching changes in the college ranks over the past few weeks. All eyes will now be on Oregon’s opening, which will attract a lot of good candidates.
