Three interceptions came in the fourth quarter. The final was a pick-six by defensive end Carlos Watkins to seal the win for Dallas. Rookie linebacker Micah Parsons extended his team’s lead with his 10th sack of the season, bringing down Hill to an 11-yard loss in the third quarter.

With an extra week in the schedule, Thursday Night Football did not mark the start of the 2021 festivities, as it did in the previous season. Instead, it began with Washington’s Week 2 marquee matchup against the New York Giants. That divisional bout, which Washington won in dramatic fashion, kicked off a loaded 15-game schedule this season on Thursday night. There have been other exciting Thursday night games, including a thriller where the Green Bay Packers handed the Arizona Cardinals their first defeat of the season.

There are more lucrative Thursday tilts to come. A potential thriller between the Chiefs and Chargers in Week 15 is another one that not only slates Thursday night, but also one of the most exciting games of the entire year.

Thursday Night Football games, the least interesting of the NFL’s primetime games year after year, have more juice this season with a schedule filled with can’t-miss matchups.

The Cowboys lead the all-time series 17–13 between these teams, but the Saints have won two of the last three meetings. They last played each other in September 2019, in a 12-10 home win over New Orleans.

Thursday night’s game could have seen something very strange, with Tysom Hill being named the starter for the Saints, and the Cowboys missing most of their coaching staff due to COVID protocol.
