Or Baker Mayfield:
The AFC North could be home to a potentially exciting quarterback rivalry between fellow No. 1 draft picks Baker Mayfield of the Browns and Joe Burrow of the Bengals. Mayfield still has promise despite a disappointing second season, and Burrow comes to the NFL fresh off the best season ever by a college quarterback.
There’s no guarantee that Burrow will be an elite quarterback, as is the case with every draft pick. But if he is, this has the potential to be something to enjoy twice every year.
Or Trevor Siemian:
This was technically only a division rivalry for one season. In 2001, the Colts were in the AFC East along with the Patriots when a young Tom Brady replaced the injured Drew Bledsoe and turned the Patriots into the longest-running NFL dynasty.
Brady took the first six games between the two. But Manning won three straight including the 2007 AFC Championship Game, which helped him win his first Super Bowl.
Game log:
Manning won two Super Bowls. McNabb played in one.
Breakdown: The Eagles and Giants have had one of the league’s more intense rivalries. At the center for six seasons was the battle between McNabb and Manning. They played 11 times, including a playoff matchup in 2009.
Fantasy:
Flacco finally got a win in 2011, starting a stretch of winning four out of five. In the playoffs, Roethlisberger beat Flacco in the 2009 AFC Championship Game and the 2011 Divisional Playoff.
But Flacco got some revenge in the 2015 AFC Wild Card game, throwing two TDs in a 30-17 win at Pittsburgh. Ironically, Roethlisberger’s most recent win vs. Flacco, a 23-16 game on Nov. 4, 2018, was Flacco’s last start before he was replaced by Lamar Jackson.
Jets:
The Jets (2-7) were hoping that Wilson, who remains day-to-day after a posterior cruciate ligament sprain nearly four weeks ago, would be ready to face the Dolphins. If not, it was widely assumed that White — only three weeks removed from a 405-yard passing performance in Wilson’s absence — would again get the nod.
Instead of White, a fan favorite, the Jets are giving Flacco his first start since Nov. 22, 2020, when he replaced the injured Sam Darnold for the Jets.
