Williams says she devised an 85-page plan. , and began giving lessons to Venus and Serena when they were four and a half years old, and began taking them to public tennis courts. He later said that he felt like he had taken them too early, and that a six-year-old would have been more appropriate.  Soon they included him in the Shreveport Tennis Tournament. In 1995, Williams pulled him out of a tennis academy, and coached him himself. 

Serena won the US Open in 1999; Venus defeated Lindsay Davenport to win the 2000 Wimbledon title. After that victory, Richard chanted “Straight outta Compton!” Screamed, in reference to a song from N.W.A, which is based in Compton, California, in the same area as Los Angeles where the family once lived.  He jumped onto the NBC broadcast booth, caught Chris Evert by surprise and performed a triumphant dance. Evert said broadcasters “thought the roof was coming down”.
