Thompson was at the top of his game when he tore his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals. Eventually cleared to return to basketball activities from that injury, Thompson suffered another traumatic injury when he tore his Achilles while playing a game of pick-up. Now, he’s back close to where he was in his initial rehab.
When will play again:
Klay Thompson underwent surgery to repair his torn Achilles on November 25, 2020. Before that, he was recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals in June of that year. Shams went on to say that he anticipates Thompson to return around December to January of this upcoming season.
The Warriors announced on Nov. 25, 2020, that Thompson underwent successful surgery to repair the torn Achilles. As part of a team statement, Golden State said that Thompson was “expected to make a full recovery.”
Where is now:
ESPN’s Nick Friedell said that Thompson could return before Christmas Day and noted that he is close to participating in 5-on-5 drills. Friedell believes that Thompson could be back in the rotation for either the Dec. 20 game against the Kings or the Dec. 23 game against the Grizzlies, both of which are at home.
“I would be surprised if it’s not one of those home games, unless there’s some kind of setback in the next month, which we know with those kind of injuries [could happen],” Friedell said.
