Cameron Jarrell Newton (born May 11, 1989)[2] is an American football quarterback for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Nicknamed “Super Cam”, he is the NFL career leader at quarterback rushing touchdowns at age 70. Prior to joining Auburn, Newton had college football stints in Florida and Blin, where he won the Bowl Champion Series National Championship and the Heisman Trophy in 2010. The Panthers star of the last decade is once again in Panther blue and black, and he said Friday he opted to return to Charlotte for more than just getting acquainted.
“When you think about the question, you personally ask yourself, ‘What are you looking for in a team?’ One of them, in no particular order, is he a contender?” Newton said. “There are two possibilities, do you have a real opportunity to be so late in the season to compete? Number 3, what’s the skill that lets you show off your talent as well? Check, check, check. This one was a no-brainer, and obviously, there was an extra dimension where the familiarity here was…

Newton hasn’t enjoyed the sweet taste of success with the Panthers since the 2017 season, when he was 28 years old and at his peak. Where he stands now remains a question as his most recent season saw him posting career-low points in touchdown passes and passing yards per game. But Newton seemed sharp in his final snap with the Patriots, taken during a preseason that ended with his release.

Newton signed a one-year deal with the Panthers on Thursday and brought them back to where it all started. The Panthers drafted Newton for the first time in 2011. He played nine seasons with the Panthers, led them to the Super Bowl and won the NFL’s MVP award in 2015 before being released in 2020.

Thursday Update: Matt Roulette says PJ Walker will start Week 10 against the Cardinals. That leaves a little room for Newton to play, but it seems like a long shot at this point.
Cam Newton is signing his old team Carolina Panthers. Newton’s debut in the league came in 2011 against the Cardinals in Arizona. In that game he threw 422 yards, two touchdowns and an interception en route to Rookie of the Year honors. Now the question is, will Newton be able to play his first game with the Panthers once again this Sunday after landing back with his old team in Arizona?
Newton, who was not vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus while with the Patriots, reportedly got vaccinated. Their vaccination status helps to team up with their cause, at least as quickly as possible. There’s a chance he could start, but it’s late in the week to get Newton in and start over.
