The eyes of the fighting world are set on Las Vegas for the big show on Saturday night. Pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez looks to become the first undisputed champion of the four-belt era to complete an incredible run through the super middleweight division when he meets Caleb Plante inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Sin City. Will fight It all starts at 9 PM on Showtime PPV. ET.

Alvarez has been a one-man wrecker crew since he grew in weight to “dare to be great” against larger foes. He marched through Callum Smith, Avni Yilidirim, and Billy Joe Saunders to earn the WBA, WBO and WBC super middleweight titles, including the violent stoppage of former light heavyweight champion Sergei Kovalev. Meanwhile, Plant earned the IBF title for £168. January 2019 and have made three successful rescues since.

Prediction

Mookie Alexander: I don’t know how Plant wins this fight. He doesn’t have the power to hurt Canelo, which means he has to outbox him over 12 rounds, which is only marginally more likely than taking Canelo out. Plant has a really good jab, swings well around the ring, and his left hook is underrated. But the problem for Plant is everything he’s really good at, Canelo is great. And one area where I expect Canelo to make plant life miserable is to constantly attack the body and work in some uppercuts with the hooks below. It looks like a fight where Plant may get a round or two early but Canelo is just going to constantly tear Plant apart, wear him down and stop him late. Canelo Alvarez by TKO, Round 11.

Lucas Bourdain (from preview): Plant is a pretty good fighter, but it’s hard to imagine his combo passing Canelo’s many layers of defense. Canelo is equally able to parry, block or dodge and has one of the best counter punchers in the game. He’ll probably want to pressurize early, let the plant catch fire and punish her body. Plant’s footwork likely isn’t good enough and his right hand isn’t enough to stop Canelo from going down. He has been slow of late in fights before, especially against Uzcategui and while Canelo had previously had cardio issues, they seem to be a thing of the past now that he is fighting at higher weights. Canelo’s win looks like the most likely outcome after a late halt after a lot of body work in the first half.
