Trade
Marlon Mack has become the odd man in the Indianapolis backfield.
The fifth-year pro ran for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019 – but he never played a full season, and he almost missed 2020 with an Achilles injury. With Jonathan Taylor and Naiheim Hines – who have just signed a three-year extension with the Colts – getting most of the carries to start the 2021 season, a perfectly healthy Mack is looking for a fresh start.
He and the team are working on a mutually agreed effort to trade him. As a 25-year-old on a one-year contract, Mack could be a great option for any and all RB-needed teams. The suitors have a trade deadline of November 2 to pursue a one-cut runner.
Fantasy
Marlon Mack had a reception on 10 carries for 22 yards and two goals for a yard in Sunday’s win in Miami. “In my mind, the starting point is Jonathan [Taylor] with 20 carries, Nyehem with five and Marlon [Mac] with five,” Frank Reich told Fox 59 TV Indianapolis after the game. On how the game goes. “Mac had just five carries in week 2 and no touches in the other two weeks. He got more carries in a game where the Indianapolis Colts were running the ball well (Taylor had 103 yards), which is understandable. However, it is a bit strange that Mack had increased in use, and Reich gave him a vote of confidence just days after Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek business. Unless he trades with a team that needs to run back, Mack is likely to have at least a role off the bench unless either Taylor or Nyahim Hines get hurt.
Trade rumors
The Ravens’ backfield unfortunately saw J.K. on the injury train of 2021. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill are all going down ahead of Week 1 with season-ending injuries. He has signed veteran castoffs Latvius Murray, Le’Von Bell and Devonta Freeman, along with Murray and Ty’son Williams, an unfinished free agent who spent the day. Most of 2020 on the Ravens’ practice squad, receiving most of the carries in the position. Thanks to electric quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens amass the league’s best rushing attack at 185.3 rushing yards per game, but adding a speedster like Mack will only make the unit fearsome and difficult to defend. Baltimore may have an edge in the uber-competitive AFC North.
Contract
The Indianapolis Colts re-signed running back Marlon Mack on a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.
Mac’s re-signing was reported late last week but with this announcement, the move became official.
Coming out of a torn Achilles during the Week 1 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, Mack received a one-year deal to return to the game and potentially receive another contract after the 2021 season.
Achilles injury is not very good, especially for running back. It feels like it’s an injury that has the same level of explosiveness and difficult to change direction for running back.
With Jonathan Taylor to lead the backfield after a strong rookie campaign and returning to Nyheim Hines to be a pass-catcher in a contract year, Mack is likely to serve in the rotation as a depth piece.
Role
Marlon Mack has been going through hell for the past year and a half.
The 2020 season saw a torn Achilles tendon rob Mack of the big-money contract he’d earned with back-to-back big seasons in Colts uniforms, returning him to Indianapolis for a year, $2 Million deal. Despite Jonathan Taylor’s breakout rookie season.
Mack fought his way back, rehabilitating the injury in game shape, only to lose his place in the rotation to Taylor and Nyhame Hines.
