Should I start week 2
Beginning this week and seating for running backs will include some household names, but that doesn’t include the big names that should always be starting in your lineup — players like Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry and other leaders. This position must have started and is not influenced by their opponents.
This list includes those that still qualify to be classified as Rb1 or Rb2 options, but of course can be influenced by both the game plan expected in the game and the opponent’s defensive strength. Knowing who to start and who to sit, especially earlier in the week, will help you adjust your fantasy football roster and make the necessary moves.
Saquon Barkley (knee) has been on injury reports every week since the end of his rookie season, and he’s going into a Week 2 matchup in Washington on Thursday Night Football. He played in the Giants opener but was ineffective with 11 touches for a total of 27 yards. You’d think he’d definitely be playing if he played last week, but in a short week early in the season, you never know. Fantasy football owners will undoubtedly be checking until kickoff for the latest injury updates as they try to decide on their first start, sit ’em of the week.
We’ll continue to update this post with news on Barkley until the active/passive report arrives on Thursday around 6:50 p.m. ET.
Week 2
Injuries are unfortunately a part of football, and many star players are at risk of missing the second week of the regular season. Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefansky has already dismissed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for Sunday, back Raheem Mostart running back San Francisco 49ers undergoing knee surgery, and Saquon Barkley “Thursday Night Football” doubtful for.
Below, we’ll examine the midweek injury reports for all 28 teams scheduled to play on Sunday and analyze the final injury reports for Thursday night’s matchup between the New York Giants and Washington football team. If you have any questions about NFL injury in Week 2, this is the place.
Trade
The unfortunate news that the New York Giants running back Saxon Barkley suffered a torn ACL during the team’s Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears made headlines around the entire NFL with some nasty injuries.
For the Giants, it’s most unfortunate that new head coach Joe Judge and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett wanted to see what a Barkley and Daniel Jones backfield would look like for an entire season.
Entering his third season in the NFL, Barkley has shown glimpses of being the all-time great running back. 2 overall in 2018, the Penn State product recorded a total of 2,028 yards and 15 touchdowns at a clip of 5.8 yards per touch to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Simultaneously, New York received the proper push back to select a running back with the second overall pick when quarterbacks such as Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and current NFL MVP Lamar Jackson were all available.
Ravens
Saquon Barkley missed the vast majority of the 2020 NFL season due to injury, but, if the latest NFL rumors are to be believed, the running back will be cleared and prepared for Week 1. In other news, the Baltimore Ravens are taking steps with the future in mind, while Bill Belichick clarifies his vaccination comments
Throughout the season, no one knew when Saxon was going to get back to running back Barkley to get ready for the start of the season. The running back tore his ACL in Week 1 of 2020, but various setbacks forced him to wait until October to undergo surgery. While it’s not yet official, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Barkley plans to play, and is “close to” being cleared for game action.
