The 102nd NFL season kicked off Thursday night with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing host to the Dallas Cowboys at Raymond James Stadium (NBC). Tampa Bay was a nine-point favorite and led for most of the game, but Dallas took a one-point lead with 1:29 left to play.

But with Tom Brady under center, the game was far from over.

Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Giovanni Bernard and Chris Godwin maneuvered the Bucs down the field to set up a 36-yard Ryan Succop field goal with seven seconds remaining. Succop booted it through for a 31-29 lead and the win.

Vs Bucs:

Tampa Bay came into the new season riding an eight-game winning streak and, after returning its entire starting lineup from Super Bowl LV, have been tabbed as favorites to go the distance and win its second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

Home fields

Not to mention, Bucs fans were back in full force at Ray Jay on Thursday night after capacity restrictions in 2020 cost them a chance to create much of a home-field advantage for their team.

The Cowboys came into Thursday night on a bit of a high themselves, as they took the field with Dak Prescott as their quarterback for the first time since October of last year. Prescott, the 2016 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and two-time Pro Bowl selection, was playing his first game after recovering from a broken ankle as well as a shoulder injury. On the down side for Dallas, All-Pro guard Zack Martin had to sit this one out after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week.

Vs Buccaneers Prediction:

The good news for the COWBOYS +8.5 (-110) is that Prescott is back under center and expected to be a full go from the jump. The bad news is that they open on the road against the defending champs.

I don’t think Prescott and the ‘Boys can shock the world and start the NFL season with a big money line upset, but I do think they have enough offensive weapons to keep this a one-score game.
