Brandon Aiyuk Career Earnings

Brandon Aiyuk’s career earnings have grown significantly since he entered the NFL in 2020. According to Over The Cap, his reported career earnings stand at approximately $60.68 million, reflecting his rookie contract and subsequent extension.

His financial situation has changed following his dispute with San Francisco, which voided guaranteed money under his contract.

Brandon Aiyuk contract details

Figures are based on Over The Cap’s published contract data. Contract value represents the potential value of a deal, not the amount already earned.

The 49ers signed Aiyuk to his four-year extension in August 2024 after he delivered consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. However, his later absence from team activities and the dispute over his contractual obligations changed the outlook for his earnings.

In 2025, the 49ers voided approximately $27 million in guaranteed money for 2026. By August 2026, reports indicated that the team no longer owed him the scheduled option bonus because of the contract default.

Why Isn’t Brandon Aiyuk Playing?

Brandon Aiyuk is not playing because of a combination of a serious knee injury and an ongoing dispute with the San Francisco 49ers.

His absence began with an injury in October 2024. The situation subsequently escalated into a contract and team-status dispute that kept him off the field throughout the 2025 season.

1. Serious knee injury

Aiyuk suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and additional knee damage during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs on October 20, 2024. The injury ended his season and required an extended recovery period.

He remained on the physically unable to perform list during the 2025 season. Although rehabilitation was an important part of his absence, it was not the only factor preventing his return.

2. Contract dispute with the 49ers

Relations between Aiyuk and San Francisco deteriorated after the two sides agreed to a major contract extension in 2024.

By December 2025, the team had placed him on the reserve/left squad list. This designation ended his season and removed him from the active roster.

The team later voided guaranteed money connected to his contract, while Aiyuk publicly expressed frustration with the organization.

3. Will Brandon Aiyuk return to the NFL?

As of October 2026, Aiyuk’s return remains uncertain. The 49ers have indicated that they do not expect him to play for the team again under the existing circumstances.

He has also expressed interest in returning to the field elsewhere, including a desire to join the Washington Commanders. However, interest from another team does not constitute a completed trade or signing. He remains under contract with San Francisco while his roster status is unresolved.

Consequently, fans should distinguish between his desire to play again and an officially confirmed return date.
