Tyrese Haliburton: Number Change, No. 22 and Did He Change His Number?

Tyrese Haliburton has become closely associated with the No. 0 jersey during his NBA career with the Indiana Pacers. However, recent images from his return to basketball have created confusion among fans because Haliburton was seen wearing No. 22.

The reason is simple: No. 22 is the number Haliburton wore at Iowa State, and he wore it again during his highly anticipated return at his former college on October 7, 2026.

Tyrese Haliburton Number Change

Haliburton has not permanently changed his Pacers jersey number from No. 0 to No. 22.

The NBA’s official player page currently lists Haliburton as No. 0, while the Pacers’ current roster also identifies him as No. 0.

His appearance in No. 22 was connected to his return to Iowa State, where he played college basketball. It was a special occasion rather than an announcement of a permanent NBA number change.

Why Was Tyrese Haliburton Wearing No. 22?

Haliburton wore a custom Pacers jersey featuring No. 22 before Indiana’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum.

No. 22 was Haliburton’s college number with the Cyclones. He used the occasion to reconnect with the school and fans who supported him before he reached the NBA.

The moment was particularly meaningful because it marked Haliburton’s return to competitive basketball after a long absence caused by his Achilles injury.
