His home and road splits are another reason for caution. Tucker has posted a .572 OPS in 72 home games, compared with a much stronger .842 OPS on the road. His road production is considerably closer to the .865 OPS he produced before joining Los Angeles.
Dodgers need Tucker with Ohtani injured
Tucker’s emergence could not come at a more important time for Los Angeles. Shohei Ohtani has been placed on the 15-day injured list because of right biceps inflammation.
Ohtani’s absence puts additional pressure on the rest of the Dodgers’ lineup, making Tucker’s bat particularly important as the season enters its crucial stage.
Los Angeles also promoted top prospect Josue De Paula to the major-league roster to fill Ohtani’s spot. De Paula went 1-for-3 in his MLB debut.
The Dodgers will hope Tucker can build on his performance against Miami rather than treating it as an isolated hot streak.
