The result was especially frustrating for Colorado because the Rockies actually finished with more home-run production. Adael Amador and Hunter Goodman both went deep, but the Yankees found more opportunities to bring runners home.
Gabriel Hughes Shows Plenty of Promise
Hughes was one of the biggest positives for Colorado. The young right-hander worked five innings, allowing two runs—only one earned—on four hits while issuing no walks.

Adael Amador Gives Colorado a Spark
Colorado’s offense struggled for much of the night, but Adael Amador provided an important highlight in the third inning.
Amador launched a 385-foot home run to right-center field against Schlittler, ending the Yankees pitcher’s early no-hit bid and tying the game. It was Amador’s fourth career homer and his third of the season.
Schlittler responded strongly, retiring 11 consecutive Rockies after the home run. He eventually finished seven innings with one run allowed on three hits and 10 strikeouts.
Yankees Break the Game Open in the Eighth
New York created separation in the eighth inning against Colorado’s bullpen.
After Ben Rice walked and Cody Bellinger doubled, Heliot Ramos delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a 402-foot home run to center field. The three-run homer pushed the Yankees ahead 4-1 and forced Colorado to chase the game late.
The Rockies managed to fight back in the ninth when Hunter Goodman hit his 37th homer of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-3. However, the Yankees called on closer David Bednar, who finished the game by striking out Mickey Moniak.
Rockies Continue to Learn From Close Games
The defeat highlighted both the promise and frustration surrounding Colorado’s young roster.
Manager Warren Schaeffer pointed to the importance of putting young players into pressure situations and learning how to finish games. Colorado has repeatedly found itself close in competitive games but has struggled to turn those opportunities into victories.
