The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 20-18 in a closely contested preseason finale Thursday night at SoFi Stadium. The Battle of Los Angeles gave both teams one final opportunity to evaluate players before NFL teams finalized their 53-man rosters.
Justin Herbert and Quentin Johnston Deliver a Big Play
One of the biggest highlights of the Rams vs. Chargers matchup came early when Justin Herbert connected with Quentin Johnston for a 65-yard touchdown.
The Chargers’ starting offense was on the field for only four plays, but the brief appearance produced an explosive result. Herbert had enough time in the pocket to find Johnston running open down the seam, and the wide receiver turned the completion into a 65-yard touchdown.

Greg Desrosiers Sparks a Late Comeback
The Chargers mounted a late comeback attempt behind running back Greg Desrosiers.
Desrosiers rushed for 118 yards on just nine carries and broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. The score brought the Chargers within reach.
DJ Uiagalelei then connected with Evan Svoboda on a two-point conversion, cutting the Rams’ lead to 20-18 with less than 13 minutes remaining.
The Chargers later got another chance after taking possession at their own 1-yard line with 3:24 remaining. Uiagalelei moved the offense past midfield, but a sack and fumble ended the threat.
Chargers Finish With 204 Rushing Yards
The Chargers’ rushing attack was one of the night’s brightest positives.
Los Angeles finished with 204 rushing yards. Desrosiers led the way with 118 yards on nine carries, while Amar Johnson added 37 yards on seven attempts.
The performance gives the Chargers plenty to evaluate as they make their final roster decisions.
DJ Uiagalelei Provides an Encouraging Performance
Uiagalelei also delivered a solid performance during the late stages of the game. He finished with 141 passing yards and helped keep the Chargers within striking distance.
His two-point conversion pass to Svoboda made it an 18-20 game and gave the Chargers a chance to complete the comeback. However, the late fumble ultimately ended the opportunity.
The preseason finale was particularly important for players competing for roster spots, with the Chargers preparing to make their final 53-man roster decisions.
