The Atlanta Braves defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Tuesday night at Truist Park, ending Los Angeles’ six-game winning streak in a dramatic game that came down to the final inning.
The Dodgers erased an early three-run deficit and had an excellent opportunity to tie the game in the ninth, but Atlanta held on behind a clutch performance from closer Raisel Iglesias. Ozzie Albies provided the decisive hit in the eighth inning, while Shohei Ohtani’s ninth-inning triple ultimately went to waste.
Braves Jump Ahead Early
Atlanta immediately put pressure on Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow, who was making his first start since May 6 after spending an extended period on the injured list.
The Braves scored three runs in the opening inning. Mauricio Dubón and Michael Harris II each delivered RBI singles, while Albies added a sacrifice fly to give Atlanta a 3-0 lead.
Despite the difficult start, Glasnow quickly settled down. He struck out the side in the second inning and kept the Braves off the scoreboard for the remainder of his outing.
Glasnow finished five innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking none. His ability to regain his form after the first inning was an encouraging sign for the Dodgers.
Dodgers Rally to Tie the Game
Los Angeles responded with a two-run second inning.
Alek Thomas and Hunter Feduccia produced RBI singles to cut Atlanta’s lead to 3-2. The Dodgers then tied the game in the fourth when Alex Call drove in Tommy Edman.
The lower part of the Dodgers lineup played a major role in the comeback. Call finished 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, while Feduccia went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thomas also drove in a run.
Atlanta starter Bryce Elder did enough to keep the Braves competitive. He worked six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five without issuing a walk.
The game remained tied at 3-3 heading into the late innings.
Ozzie Albies Delivers the Difference
The Braves finally broke the deadlock in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Matt Olson opened the inning with a double against Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott. Atlanta moved Olson to third, but Scott appeared close to escaping the threat after getting two outs.
Albies then came through with a two-out RBI single into center field. Olson scored, giving Atlanta a 4-3 advantage.
It was Albies’ second RBI of the night and proved to be the game-winning hit.
Shohei Ohtani Gives Dodgers One Last Chance
The Dodgers had one final opportunity in the ninth inning, and Ohtani immediately put Atlanta under pressure.
Ohtani tripled against Raisel Iglesias to begin the inning, placing the tying run just 90 feet from home with nobody out.
However, Iglesias responded brilliantly.
The Braves closer struck out Freddie Freeman before Mookie Betts grounded out. Atlanta intentionally walked Max Muncy, but Iglesias finished the game by getting Tommy Edman to fly out.
The sequence allowed Iglesias to record his 28th save of the season and secured Atlanta’s 4-3 victory.
Dodgers Struggle With Runners in Scoring Position
The Dodgers finished with 10 hits but were unable to turn enough of those opportunities into runs.
Los Angeles went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners. The missed chances became especially costly in the ninth inning, when Ohtani reached third with no outs but never crossed home plate.
Freeman, Betts and Edman could not deliver the tying hit, allowing the Braves to protect their one-run lead.
Tyler Glasnow Shows Encouraging Signs
The result was disappointing for Los Angeles, but Glasnow’s return provided a major positive.
After giving up three runs in the opening inning, Glasnow settled into the game and displayed the strikeout ability that makes him such an important part of the Dodgers’ rotation.
His five-inning outing included seven strikeouts and no walks. With the postseason approaching, getting Glasnow back into a consistent rhythm could be extremely important for Los Angeles.
Braves Earn Valuable Win
The victory improved Atlanta’s record to 77-55 and gave the Braves an important win over a Dodgers team that had entered the game on a six-game winning streak.
Los Angeles fell to 80-52, but the Dodgers will have an immediate opportunity to respond when the two teams meet again Wednesday.
For Atlanta, Albies’ clutch eighth-inning hit and Iglesias’ ninth-inning save were the defining moments. For Los Angeles, Glasnow’s return and the production from the bottom of the lineup offered positives despite the frustrating defeat.
The Dodgers will now look to bounce back and prevent the Braves from gaining further momentum in the series.
