WrestleMania 38 was the 38th annual WrestleMania professional wrestling live event produced by WWE. The promotion was held for wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. The program aired worldwide on pay-per-view (PPV) and was available to stream via Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network internationally. It was organized as a two-night event, which took place on April 2 and 3, 2022 at AT. was happening.

Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins: Rhodes and Rollins exchange holds to open the match, and Rollins generally gets the better of the counters. This played a role in the story that Rollins studied his opponent and was better prepared at WrestleMania 38 than when Rhodes was a mysterious opponent. Rhodes chases Rollins around the ring. Mr. “Freakin'” cut him out of the ring and firmly took control of the match. Rhodes found some momentum by slamming Rollins’ face onto the corner steps. It was brief as Rollins knocked Rhodes inside out with a clothesline ringside.
Rhodes returned from Rollins’ control period by taking down some of the trademark techniques. Rhodes put Rollins in the throat, faceplanted him from an extended suplex position, and then delivered a disaster kick. Rhodes attempted a disaster kick for the second time and slammed firmly into the ropes and outside. Action returned to the ring and Rollins led the dance, before a sunset flip and some near fall.
As chops and palm strikes turn into a full-on slap fight, chaos ensues. Rollins with a spin kick to the midsection. Rhodes hits a strike duck and throws Rollins out of the ring. Rhodes jumped off the rope but Rollins got out of the way and “The American Nightmare” ate the barricade. Rollins went for a suicide dive but ate an forearm for his efforts. Rhodes entered the ring, jumped off the ropes and nailed Rollins to a Cody Cutter. Rhodes ducks the Pedigree, Rollins counters it and hits it with a superkick. Two count for Rollins.
Grades
The first of four top-class matches at WrestleMania Backlash, The Bloodline’s main event win over RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre, was just a bunch of fun. The six WWE Superstars who ended up with fans showed up at several big spots during the bout.
Riddle and Randy Orton were in top form as their sequences with The Usos were as hot as ever. Viper’s RKO on Roman Reigns was particularly outstanding. However, the emerging issue of The Tribal Chief with Drew McIntyre was the main story here.
Reigns overtook McIntyre by slamming him through the announce table. He eventually decided to match with a spear on Riddle after a blind tag on Jay Uso.
This highly entertaining WWE-style match made up for what it lacked in storytelling. A true testament to all six actors who made this no-stakes contest, WrestleMania feels like a worthy main event for Backlash.

Raw Tag Team Championship – RK-Bro (C) vs. The Street Profits vs. Alpha Academy: The match took only seconds for all six men to join, with Otis ending up as the last man in the ring. Brawl outside as everyone re-enters the ring. Montez Ford hit a flipping dive on the outside, only for Chad Gable to hit his own top rope moonsault in the outside seconds later. Momentum surged wildly until Otis tagged in the match and hit both Angelo Dawkins and Riddle with a splash to break the pin, slowing the match down a bit. Randy Orton eventually took a hot tag and cleared the ring, allowing both RK-Bro members to increase profits with a hanging DDT. A major near collapse occurred when Forte hit Gable with a blockbuster as Gable sat on Dawkins’ shoulders. Riddle took Ford out with a springboard RKO as Ford was on the top rope and Orton hit Gable with an RKO of his own as Gable came off the top rope, securing the win. Really fun, all-action match to get the show off on the right foot. After the match, the Profits poured a drink for the champion and welcomed Gable Stevenson to the ring. Chad Gable then jumped into the ring and handed Steveson a drink. Stevenson takes off his shirt and hits Chad Gable with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex.
