  1. Milkha Singh is a former Indian track and field sprinter who was the first Indian male athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal at a Commonwealth Games.
  2. Nick name given by Milkha as a ‘Flying Sikh’—a title bequeathed to him by the former President of Pakistan, General Ayub Khan—he is highly respected for his sporting achievements.
  3. He has made his motherland proud by winning several Gold medals in international sporting events like the Commonwealth Games.
  4. And Asian Games. Milkha struggle the 400m race at the 1960 Olympic Games as one of the favorites and had even led the race till the 200m mark before he lost his speed and other runners overtook him.

Personal life:

After struggle to his life meet with Nirmal kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s volleyball team in 1955 and married her in 1962.
The couple has three daughters and one son. The son of Milkha is Jeev Milkha Singh is a famous golfer.
In 1999, the couple adopted the seven year old son of a soldier who died in the Battle of Tiger Hill.
Milkha Singh has donated all his medals to the nation which were first displayed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi before being moved to a sports museum in Patiala.
He invented the Milkha Singh Charitable Trust in 2003 with the aim of helping needy sportspersons.


He has always believed in ourself and in hard work; He firmly believe that hard work never fails.

He used to train for 7 hours everyday; He sometimes felt that he would drop dead while training.

There have been times when he was put on oxygen in the hospital as he would occasionally faint after training. All he  knew was that there would be no stopping me once he started running.
