Final Match & Highlights

Sri Lanka, who chose to bat, scored a total of 274 runs which is quite reliable. But keeping in mind the power of Indian batting, it was a little less score.

  1. The main reason for not putting a good total by Sri Lanka was a volatile innings by their top order.
  2. In the form Sri Lankan batsman Upul Tharanga and Tilakaratne Dilshan could not make a strong base for the huge build-up.
  3. In between, Jayawardene gave some stability to the innings, who scored 103 in 88 balls and gave some support.
  4. Overall, India seemed to have a piece of cake. India lost 2 early wickets but it did not make any clear pressure on India.
  5. MS Dhoni (91) scored a huge six on the long-on boundary.
  6. Yuvraj Singh (21) also remained unbeaten in the end with the Indian captain.
  7. Gautam Gambhir followed the Indian run of 275, but his first World Cup century was three runs short.
  8. The left-handed batsman first shared an important 83 runs with Virat Kohli (35) and then got a capable partner in MS Dhoni, who himself played some fantastic strokes for a superb half-century.
  9. Both batsmen also made a valuable partnership of 109 runs for the fourth wicket.

Highlights

  1. For Indians, Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh picked up two wickets each while Harbhajan Singh took one wicket and Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first.
  2. It was Jayawardene’s show, as the experienced campaigner kept the scoreboard ticking on the other side of the wicket.
  3. The right-handed player crossed 13 pedestal boundaries on his way to the magical figure.
  4. Zaheer, who bowled three maiden and got only six runs in his first five overs, got stuck on 54 in his last five overs.
  5. Sreesanth was equally careless throughout the match.
  6. He bowled in three different spells, but each of them was scored. He could not even finish off his entire quota of overs and ended up with eight overs for 52 runs.
  7. Sachin Tendulkar said that when he started playing cricket, he had a dream. But he can not hang his shoes yet.
  8. When asked about retirement, Tendulkar initially defended this question, before saying that he had not seen any reason to change things as he was still enjoying the game.
  9. Tendulkar had to wait till his sixth World Cup campaign to win the trophy, and when asked if it was the last praise, he needed to complete his achievements, he said that he really wants to get the first thing Were.
  10. After his victory on Saturday, the Indian team celebrated with his family and friends before going to Raj Bhavan on Sunday to meet the Indian President. But Tendulkar is sharing the experience with the Indian public.
  11. Tendulkar said that winning the MS Dhoni in the final was the most unforgettable moment of the campaign.

He said, “The moment I scored, I jumped.” “Viru (Virender Sehwag) who was next to me also jumped. We were sitting in the dressing room and praying.”
